Love: John 15:12-13

Love Others: John 15:12-13

We are all so blessed that Jesus not only saved us, but also set the ultimate example for how to live our lives. One thing that always puts me in awe is the love he has for us. His love is indescribable. All we can do is to love Him back with praise and by following his perfect example. One of his greatest examples on how to live our lives is to love others. Jesus goes a little more in depth in John 15:12-13…

John 15:12-13 New International Version (NIV)

12 My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. 13 Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.

Jesus commands here in verse 12 that we must “love each other as [he has loved us].” As I think about this indescribable love, Jesus wants us emulating this love on others. He continues in verse 13 telling us that no love is greater than laying down your life for one of your friends. This love that we all need to have for one another is unconditional. Somebody should not have to go do something in order for you to love them or vice versa. When Jesus died on the cross, he was not worried about the good or bad things people did because he loved his “friends” so much. In today’s world, it is extremely difficult to think that way especially when someone hurt you or made you extremely angry. But Jesus did not see it that way, he loved both his allies and enemies the same.

I encourage you to pray and ask God to help you love others like Jesus and that we can remove the many expectations we have on what love should be.
