The scripture I used for my devotion was 1 John 4:8. This verse states “Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love.” When I first saw this verse it really caught my eyes. My first thought was that we can never please God without Love for Him and those around us.We can’t only love those that are close to us. We need to love everybody. We need to love those who have done bad things to you. You need to love people who you’ve never met. You also need to love those who have different beliefs than yours. So many times, people betray and stab you in the back, but yet we need to still love them. I feel like this is one of the harder things to do, but it is needed to have a good relationship with God. As it says in the verse is, we don’t love then we don’t know God. Therefore, we must love everybody we come across. In the bible it says that we have to be quick to forgive others. If someone does something that upsets you, you should forgive them quick because of how much you love them. If you can’t forgive others then you don’t love that person, and once again as it mentions in the verse without love you don’t know God. God has given us free eternal love, so we should be able to do the same by showing love to others and God. When it comes to God’s love there is authority present. Participating in a relationship with God means submitting under his Lordship, under his right and righteous authority. We need to have an everlasting marriage with God. You should love God more than anything on this earth, whether that be a close friend a family member, or something you love doing, because at the end of the day God is who he is and will never change. God loved us so much that he sent his only son to die on the cross for us. God had to watch his only son suffer. The love that God has for us is unconditional love that can never be broken.
